The parish Church of St James in the Brendon Hills village of Upton was built in 1870. Three unhung bells, and the remains of what appears to be a Saxon circular stone font can be seen at the back of the church. These were removed from the earlier Church of St James, which was demolished around the same time that this church was built. The remains of this earlier church can still be seen elsewhere in Upton..
