Exmoor is primarily an upland area made up mainly of small villages and hamlets. The largest settlements are Porlock, Dulverton, Lynton, and Lynmouth, Simonsbath and Wheddon Cross. |
Many of the recipes published on the Exmoorian News and Information website are taken from an unpublished 19th century book of recipes compiled by three generations of one family from Chipstable, high up in the Brendon Hills, of West Somerset. The discovery of this probably unique collection of recipes was the inspiration and starting point for the Exmoorian website back in 1999. Follow the recipes link above to have a look at the many recipes, which include such delights as Blackbird Pie, Roast Skylarks, Faggots, Brown Bread Pudding, and a rather splendid Rhubarb Wine.
